Spring Sunday: only an alien would eat this

Cheese and pickle sandwiches at the trig point
where we could see the Brecon Beacons and the English Channel

my daughter pokes frogspawn with a stick
‘only an alien would eat this’
mud clambers to the top of her wellies

I take a photo of the town below
crystalline houses clustered along the valley floor

at this distance I feel safe
our house is a dab of colour.

You are such a good writer.
“Only an Alien Would Eat This” would be a great title for a book!
